Mining

Laterite is a type of soil found between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. This soil does not release easily and is a problem for open cast mining, as it sticks to the bins of the trucks, releasing less and less soil as the trucks tip.

Laterite soil

Laterite is a type of soil found between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. This soil does not release easily and is a problem for open cast mining, as it sticks to the bins of the trucks, releasing less and less soil as the trucks tip. Consequently, after about four loads, the bins have to be mechanically scraped to remove all the compacted laterite soil.

Release Agent

Manchem’s solution to this problem was to formulate a product to prevent this laterite soil from compacting onto the bin with each load. Manchem’s Lat-T-Rite product is a release agent which prevents most of the sticking. Now, the trucks’ bins only need to be scraped every 20 hours.

Lat-T-Rite is a water based product which has been specifically formulated as a slip agent for heavy industrial machinery. It has been formulated to prevent heavy laterite clay soils from sticking to metal surfaces thereby making transport of these clay ores more cost effective by reducing dead weight transport costs.

The Advantages of Lat-T-Rite

  • It is fully biodegradable by being based on a vegetable oil feedstock.
  • It provides anti-corrosion properties on steel.
  • It is easy to apply by either a sprayer or can be brushed onto surfaces (It should be allowed to dry to a visibly dry or oily film before use).
